bunq Poland API Access & Open Banking | open-banking.io

bunq is the Dutch mobile-first neobank, and its Polish customers manage personal and business accounts entirely from their phone. With open-banking.io you can reach that same bunq (Poland) account data securely — no certificates, no eIDAS setup, and no code required just to get started. Everything is decrypted locally with an encryption key that only you hold, so open-banking.io never sees your balances or transactions in the clear.

Whether you want a live view of your finances or a programmatic feed for accounting and reconciliation, bunq works the same way as the 2,600+ other European banks on the platform.

How to connect bunq

Connecting bunq happens in the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, key, or redirect involved in this step:

  1. Sign up for open-banking.io and set your encryption passphrase. Your keys are generated on your own device, so only you can later unlock the data.
  2. In the dashboard, search for bunq (Poland) and choose your account type — both personal and business accounts are supported.
  3. You're redirected to bunq's own secure login to approve access under PSD2. You authorise the consent directly with the bank, never through us.
  4. Your accounts sync straight into your dashboard. The consent lasts up to 180 days, after which you simply re-approve on bunq's screen.

Note that bunq (Poland) has no dedicated BIC listed — none is needed for the open-banking connection.

Access your data

Once bunq is connected, developers can optionally read the data programmatically. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles your API key together with your private decryption key. From there use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API. Requests authenticate with the X-Api-Key header, and every response is decrypted locally with your own key. Without that private key, an API key alone returns only ciphertext — which is exactly what makes the model zero-knowledge. The CLI and SDK only read and sync existing connections; they never create one.

All of this runs for around EUR 3/month.

Do I need a developer certificate for bunq?

No. open-banking.io is certificate-free — the dashboard consent flow is all you need to connect bunq.

Can open-banking.io read my bunq transactions?

No. Servers hold only your public key. Data is decrypted on your device with a key only you possess.

Does bunq business banking work too?

Yes. Both personal and business bunq (Poland) accounts can be connected and read.
