Vik Sparebank Open Banking & Secure API Access

How to connect Vik Sparebank

Connecting happens entirely in the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code, or key involved in this step.

  1. Sign up for open-banking.io and set your encryption passphrase. Your key pair is created locally; open-banking.io only ever holds your public key.
  2. In the dashboard, search for Vik Sparebank and choose the account type you need — business or personal.
  3. You are redirected to Vik Sparebank's own secure login, where you approve access under PSD2. Consent lasts up to 180 days, after which you simply re-approve.
  4. Your selected accounts sync back into the dashboard, ready to view.

That's the whole flow — you approve directly on the bank's screen, and open-banking.io never sees your credentials.

Access your data

Once Vik Sparebank is connected, developers can optionally read the data programmatically. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key and your private decryption key. From there use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API. Requests authenticate with the X-Api-Key header, and every response is decrypted locally with your own key. Without that private key, an API key alone returns only ciphertext. Note that Vik Sparebank has no published BIC (n/a) in this directory.

The result is genuine zero-knowledge access: open-banking.io's servers cannot read or decrypt your data, and all for roughly EUR 3/month.

Does open-banking.io store my Vik Sparebank login?

No. You authenticate on Vik Sparebank's own consent page; open-banking.io never receives your banking password.

Can I access both business and personal accounts?

Yes. Vik Sparebank supports both account types — pick either when connecting, or add both.

How long does access last before I re-authorize?

Consent runs up to 180 days, then you re-approve on the bank's screen to keep syncing.
