Esso Mastercard API Access & Open Banking (Norway)

Your Esso Mastercard (Norway) statements hold the full record of your fuel, travel and everyday spending — but that data usually stays locked behind a card-issuer login. open-banking.io gives you a certificate-free, PSD2-compliant way to pull those balances and transactions into one place, then read them however you like. It is zero-knowledge by design: your card data is decrypted on your own device with a key only you hold, so the service never sees your numbers in the clear.

Esso Mastercard is a personal card product. Access consent lasts up to 180 days before you renew it, and there is no BIC (n/a) for this card issuer.

How to connect Esso Mastercard

Connecting happens entirely inside the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code or key at this stage:

  1. Sign up for open-banking.io and set your encryption passphrase. Your keys are generated locally on your device.
  2. In the dashboard, choose Esso Mastercard and select the personal account type.
  3. You are redirected to Esso Mastercard's own secure login, where you approve access on the issuer's PSD2 consent screen.
  4. Your accounts sync back into your dashboard automatically. Renew the consent within the 180-day window to keep the connection live.

You stay in control the whole time — approval always happens on Esso Mastercard's side, never by handing credentials to a third party.

Access your data

Once your card is connected, reading the data programmatically is an optional developer step. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there you can use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API directly. Requests authenticate with the X-Api-Key header, and every response is decrypted locally with your own key. Without that private key an API key alone returns only ciphertext — open-banking.io holds nothing but your public key.

All of this runs for around EUR 3/month, with no eIDAS certificates and no bank-side developer onboarding.

Do I need a developer account to see my Esso Mastercard data?

No. The dashboard shows your synced accounts and transactions. The API key and CLI are only for programmatic reads.
