PayPal Malta Open Banking & API Access | Secure Sync
Looking to pull your PayPal (Malta) balances and transaction history into your own tools? open-banking.io lets you connect PayPal under Malta's PSD2 rules and keep a live, synced copy of your account data — without certificates, without a bank sponsorship, and without ever handing your raw data to a third party. It works for both business and personal PayPal accounts, and a single consent stays valid for up to 180 days before you renew it.
open-banking.io is zero-knowledge by design: your encryption keys are generated on your own device, and every figure is decrypted locally with a key only you hold. Our servers only ever store your public key, so they cannot read a cent of your PayPal activity.
How to connect PayPal
Connecting happens entirely in the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code, or key involved in this step.
- Sign up for open-banking.io and choose an encryption passphrase. Your private key is created locally at this moment.
- In the dashboard, search for PayPal (Malta) and pick your account type — business or personal.
- You are redirected to PayPal's own secure login, where you review and approve the access request (the standard PSD2 consent screen).
- Once you confirm, your PayPal accounts sync straight into your dashboard, ready to view.
Note that PayPal (Malta) has no published BIC (BIC: n/a), so you identify the account by logging in directly rather than by routing code.
Access your data
Prefer to work programmatically? That is an optional step you take after connecting. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there, use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API.
Every request carries your key in the X-Api-Key header, and each response is decrypted locally with your private key. An API key on its own only ever returns ciphertext — without your key, there is nothing readable to leak.
Does PayPal support business and personal accounts?
Yes. Both business and personal PayPal (Malta) accounts can be connected and synced.
How long does my PayPal consent last?
Up to 180 days per approval, after which you re-confirm access on PayPal's consent screen.
Can open-banking.io staff see my PayPal data?
No. It is zero-knowledge — we hold only your public key, and decryption happens on your device.
