HSBC (Ireland) API Access & Open Banking Data

Reaching your HSBC (Ireland) business banking data no longer means wrestling with certificates, sandbox onboarding or a stack of PSD2 paperwork. open-banking.io gives you a single, privacy-first path to your HSBC accounts: a hosted dashboard that handles the regulated connection, plus optional developer tooling once the account is live. Everything is encrypted on your own device with a key that never leaves it, so the data flowing back to you stays yours alone.

How to connect HSBC

Connecting happens entirely inside the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code snippet or key involved in this step.

  1. Sign up for open-banking.io and set an encryption passphrase. Your key pair is generated locally on your device; the platform only ever sees your public key.
  2. In the dashboard, choose HSBC (Ireland) and select the business account type you want to link.
  3. You are redirected to HSBC's own secure login, where you approve access under PSD2 consent — your credentials are entered only on the bank's screen.
  4. Once approved, your HSBC accounts and transactions sync straight into your dashboard.

HSBC (Ireland) is reachable under BIC HBUKGB4BXXX, supports business accounts, and grants a consent window of up to 180 days before you renew it.

Access your data

Reading HSBC data programmatically is an optional step that comes after the connection exists. Open the Developers page, create an API key, and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API let you pull records on demand. Every request carries the X-Api-Key header, and every response is decrypted locally with your own key. Note that the CLI and SDK only read and sync connections you already made in the dashboard — there is no connect command.

Because open-banking.io is zero-knowledge, its servers hold only ciphertext and your public key: an API key alone returns encrypted data, useless without the private key you control. All of this runs certificate-free for around EUR 3 per month.
