Bankinter API Access & Open Banking Data | open-banking.io

Reaching your Bankinter account data no longer means wrestling with PSD2 certificates or standing up your own bank integration. open-banking.io gives you a single, certificate-free path to Bankinter's business and personal accounts, and every figure that lands in your dashboard is decrypted on your own device with a key that never leaves it. Bankinter operates under BIC BKBKESMMXXX, and once connected you can keep a consent live for up to 180 days before re-approving.

The service reaches 2,600+ EU and UK banks, so Bankinter can sit alongside the rest of your accounts in one place — no separate tooling per institution.

How to connect Bankinter

Connecting happens entirely inside the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code, or key involved in this step:

  1. Sign up for an open-banking.io account.
  2. Set your encryption passphrase. Your keys are generated locally on your device, so only you can ever unlock your data.
  3. Pick Bankinter in the dashboard and choose the account type you need — business or personal.
  4. Approve on Bankinter's own login. You're redirected to Bankinter's secure consent screen to authorise access directly with the bank.
  5. Your accounts sync back into the dashboard automatically, ready to view.

Because open-banking.io is zero-knowledge, its servers only ever hold your public key — they cannot read or decrypt anything you sync.

Access your data

Once Bankinter is connected, developers can optionally read the data programmatically. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API. Requests authenticate with the X-Api-Key header, and every response is decrypted locally with your own key. Without that private key an API key alone returns only ciphertext — the servers never see plaintext.

All of this runs for around EUR 3/month.

FAQ

Do I need a PSD2 certificate to access Bankinter?

No. open-banking.io is certificate-free. You approve access on Bankinter's own consent screen and skip the entire eIDAS certificate process.

Can I connect Bankinter with the CLI or an API key?

No. Connecting only happens in the dashboard via Bankinter's login. The CLI, SDK, and API only read or sync connections you've already made.

Up to 180 days, after which Bankinter asks you to re-approve access to keep your accounts syncing.
