BankNordik Føroyar Open Banking & API Access Guide

Reaching BankNordik Føroyar account data has traditionally meant certificates, sandbox onboarding and PSD2 paperwork. open-banking.io removes that layer entirely. It is a zero-knowledge gateway to 2,600+ banks across the EU and UK, and BankNordik Føroyar — the Tórshavn-based Faroese bank (formerly Føroya Banki) — is among them. You keep the balances and transactions of both business and personal accounts in one dashboard, and everything is decrypted on your own device with a key nobody else holds.

There are no certificates to buy and no eIDAS setup. You sign up, and your encryption keys are generated locally the moment you choose a passphrase.

How to connect BankNordik Føroyar

Connecting happens entirely inside the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code or key involved in this step.

  1. Create an open-banking.io account and set an encryption passphrase. Your key pair is generated on your device; the service only ever sees your public key.
  2. In the dashboard, search for BankNordik Føroyar and pick the account type you need — business or personal.
  3. You are redirected to BankNordik Føroyar's own secure login, where you approve access under PSD2 consent. Your credentials go only to the bank.
  4. Once approved, your accounts sync into the dashboard. A single consent stays valid for up to 180 days before you renew it.

Access your data

Once BankNordik Føroyar is connected, developers can optionally read the data programmatically. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API directly. Every request carries the X-Api-Key header, and each response is decrypted locally with your own key. Without that private key an API key returns only ciphertext — the servers cannot read what they store.

All of this runs for roughly EUR 3 per month, no per-bank fees.

Is a certificate or license required?

No. open-banking.io is certificate-free. You only need an open-banking.io account and your BankNordik Føroyar login to approve consent.

Does BankNordik Føroyar have a BIC on file here?

No BIC is listed for this connection. You still link accounts normally by selecting the bank in the dashboard.

Can the CLI connect the bank for me?

No. The CLI, SDK and API only read and sync connections that already exist. Connecting always happens through the dashboard and the bank's consent screen.
