Volksbank Gera · Jena · Rudolstadt Open Banking API
Reading your own Volksbank Gera · Jena · Rudolstadt account data shouldn't require a banking licence, an eIDAS certificate, or a stack of PSD2 paperwork. open-banking.io gives you a single, private route into your Thuringian co-op accounts — balances and transactions synced to a dashboard where the data is decrypted locally with a key only you hold. The service already reaches 2,600+ banks across the EU and UK, and Volksbank Gera · Jena · Rudolstadt (BIC GENODEF1RUJ) is one of them.
Because it is zero-knowledge, open-banking.io's servers only ever hold your public key. Whatever they store stays ciphertext to everyone but you — including them.
How to connect Volksbank Gera · Jena · Rudolstadt
Connecting happens entirely in the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code, or key involved in this step:
- Sign up for open-banking.io and set your encryption passphrase. Your keys are generated on your own device.
- In the dashboard, pick Volksbank Gera · Jena · Rudolstadt and choose the account type you want to link — both business and personal accounts are supported.
- You are redirected to Volksbank Gera · Jena · Rudolstadt's own secure login, where you approve access on the bank's PSD2 consent screen.
- Your accounts sync back into the dashboard. Consent lasts up to 180 days, after which you simply re-approve on the bank's screen.
No developer redirects the account holder, and nothing about your credentials passes through open-banking.io — you authenticate directly with the bank.
Access your data
Once a connection exists, reading it programmatically is an optional developer step. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there:
- Use the CLI:
openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync. - Or call the REST API / an SDK, sending your key in the
X-Api-Keyheader.
Every response is decrypted locally with your private key. An API key on its own returns only ciphertext — without your key there is nothing readable to see. The CLI and SDK read and sync existing connections; they never create one.
All of this runs for around EUR 3/month, with no certificates to buy or renew.
