How to connect Volksbank Freiburg

  1. Sign up for open-banking.io and set your encryption passphrase. Your cryptographic keys are generated locally on your device; the service never sees your private key.
  2. In the dashboard, search for and select Volksbank Freiburg, then choose the account type you want to link — business or personal.
  3. You are redirected to Volksbank Freiburg's own secure login, where you approve access under PSD2 (strong customer authentication on the bank's screen, not ours).

Access your data

After a connection exists, developers can optionally read it programmatically. Open the Developers page, create an API key, and export a credentials.json — this bundles your API key together with your private decryption key. From there use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API. Requests authenticate with the X-Api-Key header, and every response is decrypted locally with your own key. The CLI and SDK only read and sync connections you already made in the dashboard — they cannot create new ones.

Because open-banking.io is zero-knowledge, its servers hold only your public key: an API key alone returns ciphertext, useless without the private key that never leaves you. All this runs for roughly EUR 3/month.

Is a QWAC or eIDAS certificate required?

No. open-banking.io is certificate-free — you authenticate directly on Volksbank Freiburg's consent screen.

Can open-banking.io read my transactions?

No. Data is decrypted only on your device with a key it never holds, so the service cannot read your account contents.
