Volksbank Filder API Access & Open Banking Data

Reaching your Volksbank Filder accounts from your own tools no longer means wrestling with bank certificates or a PSD2 licence. open-banking.io gives you standardised, read-only access to Volksbank Filder (BIC GENODES1NHB) across a network of 2,600+ European banks. Both business and personal accounts are supported, and a single approval keeps the connection live for up to 180 days before it needs renewing.

The difference is where your data is decrypted. open-banking.io is zero-knowledge: encryption keys are generated on your own device, so the platform only ever holds your public key. Balances and transactions are unreadable to anyone but you — no certificate to buy, no compliance overhead.

How to connect Volksbank Filder

Connecting happens entirely in the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code, or key involved in this step:

  1. Sign up for an open-banking.io account.
  2. Set an encryption passphrase. Your private key is created locally and never leaves your device.
  3. In the dashboard, search for and select Volksbank Filder, then choose the account type (business or personal).
  4. You're redirected to Volksbank Filder's own secure login, where you approve access under PSD2 — exactly as you would for any trusted bank service.
  5. Your accounts sync back into the dashboard, ready to view.

That's the whole flow. Your credentials are entered only on the bank's screen, never on open-banking.io.

Access your data

Once a connection exists, reading it programmatically is an optional developer step. From the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API. Requests authenticate with the X-Api-Key header, and every response is decrypted locally with your own key. An API key alone returns only ciphertext — without your private key, the data stays sealed. Note the CLI and SDK only read and sync existing connections; there is no connect command.

All of this runs at around EUR 3/month.
