Sparkasse Wetzlar API Access & Open Banking Data

Reach your Sparkasse Wetzlar accounts through a single, privacy-first workspace. open-banking.io links to more than 2,600 EU and UK banks and lets you view balances and transactions for both business and personal accounts held at Sparkasse Wetzlar (BIC HELADEF1WET). There are no eIDAS certificates to buy and no regulatory onboarding on your side — and because the service is zero-knowledge, your financial data is decrypted only on your own device with a key that never leaves it.

How to connect Sparkasse Wetzlar

Connecting happens entirely inside the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code, or key involved in this step.

  1. Sign up for open-banking.io and set an encryption passphrase. Your key pair is generated locally in your browser; the service only ever stores your public key.
  2. In the dashboard, choose Sparkasse Wetzlar and pick the account type you want to link — business or personal.
  3. You are redirected to Sparkasse Wetzlar's own secure login, where you approve access under PSD2. Your credentials stay with the bank.
  4. Once you confirm, your accounts sync back into the dashboard. Consent lasts up to 180 days, after which you simply re-approve on the bank's screen.

Access your data

Reading your data programmatically is an optional developer step you take after the connection exists. Open the Developers page, create an API key, and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there you can use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API. Requests authenticate with the X-Api-Key header, and every response is decrypted locally with your own key. Note that the API key alone only ever returns ciphertext — without your private key, nothing is readable. The CLI and SDK read and sync existing connections; they never connect a bank.

All of this runs for around EUR 3 per month.

Is my Sparkasse Wetzlar login shared with open-banking.io?

No. You authenticate directly on Sparkasse Wetzlar's own consent screen. open-banking.io never sees your banking password.

Can open-banking.io read my transactions?

No. It holds only your public key, so data is encrypted for you and decrypted solely on your device.

How long does access stay active?

Sparkasse Wetzlar permits consent for up to 180 days. Re-approve on the bank's screen to renew.
