Sparkasse Krefeld API Access & Open Banking Data

Sparkasse Krefeld customers can pull their account balances and transaction history into one private dashboard using open-banking.io, an EU/UK open-banking service covering 2,600+ banks. Whether you run a business account or a personal one at Sparkasse Krefeld (BIC SPKRDE33XXX), the setup is certificate-free and takes only a few minutes — no eIDAS certificate, no PSD2 licence, and no code required to get started.

What sets open-banking.io apart is its zero-knowledge design. Your bank data is encrypted and decrypted locally with a key that only you hold. The open-banking.io servers store only your public key, so they can never read or decrypt your Sparkasse Krefeld statements — the plaintext exists only on your own device.

How to connect Sparkasse Krefeld

Connecting happens entirely in the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call or key involved in this step:

  1. Sign up for an open-banking.io account.
  2. Set your encryption passphrase. Your encryption keys are generated right there on your own device.
  3. In the dashboard, search for and select Sparkasse Krefeld, then choose your account type — business or personal.
  4. You are redirected to Sparkasse Krefeld's own secure login to approve access under PSD2. You authenticate directly with the bank; open-banking.io never sees your credentials.
  5. Once approved, your accounts sync into the dashboard. Your consent stays valid for up to 180 days, after which you simply re-approve on the bank's screen.

Access your data

After the connection is live, developers can optionally read the same data programmatically. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there, use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API. Requests authenticate with the X-Api-Key header, and every response is decrypted locally with your own key. The API key alone only ever returns ciphertext — without your private key it stays unreadable.

All of this runs for around EUR 3/month.

Do I need a certificate to access Sparkasse Krefeld?

No. open-banking.io is certificate-free — you approve access directly on Sparkasse Krefeld's consent screen, no eIDAS or PSD2 licence needed.

Can open-banking.io read my Sparkasse Krefeld data?

No. It is zero-knowledge and holds only your public key. Decryption happens on your device with a key only you control.

How long does access last?

Sparkasse Krefeld allows a maximum consent window of 180 days. After that you re-approve on the bank's login screen.
