Sparkasse Dortmund API Access & Open Banking

Sparkasse Dortmund serves personal and business customers across the Ruhr region, and open-banking.io lets you reach those accounts through one certificate-free workspace. There are no eIDAS certificates to buy and no bank-specific integration to build — you authorise access once and your balances and transactions flow into a dashboard you control. Everything is decrypted locally with a key that never leaves your device, so open-banking.io only ever holds your public key.

How to connect Sparkasse Dortmund

Connecting happens entirely inside the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code, or key involved in this step.

  1. Sign up for open-banking.io and set your encryption passphrase. Your key pair is generated right there on your own device.
  2. In the dashboard, search for Sparkasse Dortmund (BIC DORTDE33XXX) and choose whether you are linking a personal or a business account.
  3. You are redirected to Sparkasse Dortmund's own secure login, where you approve the PSD2 consent directly with the bank.
  4. Once approved, your accounts sync back into your dashboard automatically.

Sparkasse Dortmund grants access for up to 180 days per consent, after which you simply repeat the approval to keep the connection live.

Access your data

Reading data programmatically is an optional step you take after the account is connected. Open the Developers page, create an API key, and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API all work the same way: requests carry the X-Api-Key header, and every response is decrypted locally with your own key. The CLI and SDK only read and sync connections that already exist — they never create one. And because the platform is zero-knowledge, an API key alone returns ciphertext; without your private key there is nothing readable to leak.

Pricing is roughly EUR 3/month for access across 2,600+ EU and UK banks.

Do I need an eIDAS certificate?

No. open-banking.io is certificate-free — you approve access on Sparkasse Dortmund's own consent screen, with no QWAC or QSeal to obtain.

Can open-banking.io read my Sparkasse Dortmund data?

No. Data is decrypted only on your device with a key you hold. The servers store just your public key and encrypted payloads.

How long does a connection last?

Sparkasse Dortmund allows consents of up to 180 days. Re-approve in the dashboard when a consent expires to continue syncing.
