Sparkasse Bremen API Access & Open Banking Data

Reaching your Sparkasse Bremen account data used to mean eIDAS certificates, sandbox registrations and a PSD2 licence. open-banking.io removes all of that. It is a certificate-free bridge to 2,600+ EU and UK banks, and it treats your data as yours alone: everything is decrypted locally with a key that never leaves your device, so open-banking.io only ever holds your public key. Whether you run a personal current account or a business account with Sparkasse Bremen (BIC SBREDE22XXX), you can have a live, readable feed of balances and transactions in minutes — no bank paperwork required.

How to connect Sparkasse Bremen

Connecting happens entirely inside the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code or key involved in this step.

  1. Sign up for open-banking.io and set your encryption passphrase. Your keys are generated right there on your own device.
  2. In the dashboard, search for Sparkasse Bremen and choose the account type you hold — business or personal.
  3. You are redirected to Sparkasse Bremen's own secure login, where you approve access under PSD2. Your credentials are only ever seen by the bank.
  4. Your accounts sync straight back into the dashboard. The consent you grant lasts up to 180 days, after which you simply re-approve on the bank's screen.

Access your data

Once Sparkasse Bremen is connected, developers can optionally read the data programmatically. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there, use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API. Every request carries the X-Api-Key header, and each response is decrypted locally with your own key. An API key on its own only ever returns ciphertext — the private key that makes it readable stays with you. Note the CLI and SDK only read and sync connections you already made in the dashboard; there is no connect command.

Is a Sparkasse Bremen developer account needed?

No. You never register with the bank or handle eIDAS certificates. open-banking.io provides the regulated access; you just approve consent on Sparkasse Bremen's login page.

Can open-banking.io see my transactions?

No. The service is zero-knowledge and stores only your public key. Decryption happens on your device, so the servers cannot read your Sparkasse Bremen data.

What does it cost?

Around EUR 3 per month, covering dashboard access, syncing and the developer API for all your connected banks.
