Märkische Bank API Access & Open Banking Data

Reading your Märkische Bank accounts programmatically usually means TPP licences, eIDAS certificates and a compliance stack most teams never want to build. open-banking.io removes all of that. It gives you PSD2 access to Märkische Bank eG (BIC GENODEM1HGN) for both business and personal accounts, with every balance and transaction decrypted locally under a key only you hold — the service itself is zero-knowledge and never sees your data in the clear.

How to connect Märkische Bank

Connecting happens entirely inside the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code or key involved in this step.

  1. Sign up for open-banking.io and set your encryption passphrase. Your key pair is generated on your own device; only your public key ever leaves it.
  2. In the dashboard, search for and select Märkische Bank, then choose the account type you need (business or personal).
  3. You are redirected to Märkische Bank's own secure login, where you approve access on the bank's PSD2 consent screen. Your credentials are only ever entered on the bank's site.
  4. Your accounts sync straight back into your dashboard. Consent lasts up to 180 days, after which you simply re-approve on the bank's screen.

Access your data

Programmatic access is an optional developer step you take after the bank is connected. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API directly. Requests authenticate with the X-Api-Key header, and every response is decrypted locally with your private key. An API key alone only ever returns ciphertext — without your key the data stays unreadable, even to open-banking.io.

Is open-banking.io really certificate-free?

Yes. You never obtain an eIDAS certificate or a TPP licence. open-banking.io handles the regulated connection to Märkische Bank; you just approve consent.

Can I read both business and personal accounts?

Yes. Märkische Bank supports both account types over PSD2, and you pick the type when connecting in the dashboard.

What does it cost?

Around EUR 3/month, covering access to Märkische Bank and 2,600+ other EU/UK banks under the same zero-knowledge model.
