Leipziger Volksbank API Access & Open Banking
Reaching Leipziger Volksbank account data used to mean wrestling with PSD2 certificates and a bespoke bank API. open-banking.io removes that overhead: it is a zero-knowledge, certificate-free gateway covering 2,600+ EU and UK banks, including Leipziger Volksbank (BIC GENODEF1LVB). You get read access to both business and personal accounts, with a consent that stays valid for up to 180 days before it needs renewing.
The defining trait is privacy. Your encryption keys are generated on your own device, and every balance or transaction is decrypted locally with a key only you hold. open-banking.io's servers keep only your public key, so they can never read or decrypt what flows through them.
How to connect Leipziger Volksbank
Connecting happens entirely inside the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, code, or key involved in this step.
- Sign up for open-banking.io and set your encryption passphrase; your private keys are created right there on your device.
- In the dashboard, search for and select Leipziger Volksbank, then choose the account type you need — business or personal.
- You are redirected to Leipziger Volksbank's own secure login, where you approve access on the bank's PSD2 consent screen.
- Once approved, your accounts sync back into your dashboard, ready to view.
Because the approval takes place on the bank's own portal, your credentials are never seen by open-banking.io.
Access your data
Programmatic access is an optional step you take after the connection already exists. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there you can use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API.
Every request carries the X-Api-Key header, and each response is decrypted locally with your own key. An API key on its own only ever returns ciphertext — the readable data appears only once your private key unlocks it on your machine. Note that the CLI and SDK read and sync existing connections; they cannot create one.
All of this runs from around EUR 3 per month, with no certificate paperwork to maintain.

Can open-banking.io read my Leipziger Volksbank data?
