Evangelische Bank API Access & Open Banking

Evangelische Bank (BIC GENODEF1EK1) serves churches, charities and their members across Germany, and open-banking.io lets you reach both business and personal accounts without any bank certificate, QWAC or eIDAS registration. It is a zero-knowledge service: your encryption keys are generated on your own device, so only you can ever read your Evangelische Bank balances and transactions. open-banking.io stores just your public key and holds ciphertext it cannot decrypt.

How to connect Evangelische Bank

Connecting happens entirely inside the open-banking.io dashboard — there is no API call, key or code involved in this step.

  1. Sign up for open-banking.io and set your encryption passphrase. Your private key is created locally and never leaves your device.
  2. In the dashboard, search for Evangelische Bank and choose the account type you need — business or personal.
  3. You are redirected to Evangelische Bank's own secure login, where you approve PSD2 access on the bank's consent screen.
  4. Your accounts sync back into the dashboard. A single consent stays valid for up to 180 days, after which you simply re-approve.

Because approval takes place on Evangelische Bank's own login, open-banking.io never sees your banking credentials.

Access your data

Once the connection is live, reading it programmatically is an optional developer step. On the Developers page, create an API key and export a credentials.json — this bundles the API key together with your private decryption key. From there you can use the CLI (openbanking accounts, openbanking transactions, openbanking sync), an SDK, or the REST API. Every request carries your key in the X-Api-Key header, and each response is decrypted locally with your own key. An API key alone only ever returns ciphertext; without your private key the data stays unreadable — even to open-banking.io. The CLI and SDK read and sync existing connections only; they never create one.

All of this runs for around EUR 3/month, covering 2,600+ EU and UK banks under one certificate-free subscription.

Do I need a PSD2 certificate for Evangelische Bank?

Can open-banking.io read my Evangelische Bank data?

No. It is zero-knowledge and holds only your public key. Decryption happens on your device with a key only you control.
